Karan Johar’s fifth directorial venture, Student of the Year, launched the careers of four promising actors, Siddharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt and Kayoze Irani. The film worked as a perfect debut for these youngsters, most of who have already signed their second film. SOTY

Well, for Karan Johar, this isn’t the end of campus romances! The director-producer plans to use the Student of the Year theme to launch more actors in the future and has recently tweeted about his plans for a sequel. “For all those asking… definitely planning SOTY 2. Dharma (Productions) plans to make it a franchise and launch new talent with it each time,” Karan posted on Twitter.

In the original film, Siddharth played the role of Abhimanyu Singh. A middle-class boy who finds himself amidst the company of rich kids at school including Shanaya Singhania (Alia Bhatt) and her boyfriend Rohan Nanda (Varun Dhawan), Abhi seeks to fulfill his ambitions and win the school trophy. To do this, he eventually locks horns with Rohan and the rest of his friends. The film also has a love-triangle as its premise with Abhi falling in love with Shanaya, resulting in a clash between him and Shanaya’s boyfriend, Rohan.

Apart from making known his plans for a sequel, Karan hasn’t spoken much about what the next Student of the Year film could be like. One thing’s for sure though. The sequel is bound to grab hearts just the way the original did and we’re looking forward to it!
