Filmmaker Karan Johar has always had a competitive spirit and has been sportily working towards the brighter side of the rainbow! The Dharma Productions chief showed his competitive nature while shooting for his segment in Bombay Talkies too. The film is being directed by three more filmmakers besides Karan, including Anurag Kashyap, Dibakar Banerjee and Zoya Akhtar. “During the making of this film, I was obsessed by what the others were doing. I wanted to know how many days they shot, what their films were about. I’m very competitive by nature and we all want to be better than the other,” said Karan.
He also went on to add, “But when four of us got together at Zoya’s place and we saw the films, there was nothing but love at the end of it – eventually that emotion of cinema and passion overrides that sense of ambition and competition and that’s what happened to me. I’m sure the same happened to the other three too.”
Each of the filmmakers have directed a 20 minute segment in the film, all of which will be put together to form the film, Bombay Talkies. This is a tribute to the 100 years of Hindi cinema and the filmmakers have each worked with a tight budget to create their segments. Karan added, “Having said that, I always wanted to know if Anurag Kashyap had shot his films in five days because my production was giving me a tough time. Zoya Akhtar took nine days and I could find out nothing about Dibakar Banerjee. He was the most secretive and the sneakiest of the lot.”
